Assistant Scientist – In Vivo Pharmacology

Reporting to the Senior Scientist, In vivo Pharmacology, the Assistant Scientist will be responsible for creating, managing and overseeing in vivo proof of concept (PoC) and pharmacology studies that are run with external CROs and through internal work flows.  The Berg R&D pipeline that spans (oncology, endocrinology and neurology) currently has many rapidly advancing small molecules and biologics that are in various stages of PoC and pharmacology studies. The ideal candidate will be a motivated team player who is willing to work in a highly cross functional setting that is fast paced and dynamic. The candidate will present good communication skills along with a strong sense of ownership.

Responsibilities:

  • Use in vivo expertise to design animal protocols based on input from program leads and scientific management
  • Work closely with CRO in making amendments to IACUC protocols, if necessary, and monitor animal studies to ensure compliance with technical requirements that are laid out in the proposed design
  • Archive all tissues/samples collected at the end of each study
  • Perform downstream analysis on collected tissues
  • Ensure quality of data and data compliance, generate high quality reports with recommendations

Qualifications:

  • Requires a MS in Biology, pharmacology or related science field with 5+ years of relevant in vivo experience in an academic and industrial setting
  • In-depth knowledge of Animal Care and Use principles and applications
  • Extensive experience with human xenograft and syngeneic models
  • Familiar with efficacy and PK/PD and toxicology study design
  • Experience with in vivo mouse models of oncology will be ideal
  • Hands-on expertise with implantable tumor models and different routes of administration
  • Blood/tissue collection and necropsy
  • Ability to follow defined procedures and protocols and attention to detail
  • Experience with managing CRO relation is an advantage
  • Working on mouse/rat models of other therapeutic areas (neurology, regenerative medicine etc) is a plus
