General Counsel

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Counsel provides legal counsel and resolves legal matters for assigned responsibilities or clients; supports business objectives by rendering sound legal advice and manages legal risks to the organization. The ideal candidate must be energized by working in a complex and fast-paced environment, be able to quickly understand and support business objectives with creative and strategic approaches, cultivate productive relationships with the business, all while exercising sound and ethical judgment.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and resolve both routine and complex legal issues related to assigned matters including, but not limited to corporate compliance, regulatory (FDA, SEC, HHS, etc.), due diligence, contracts, IP (Pre-filing strategies, Patents and Trademarks), litigation, property leases and employment law (including immigration)
  • Provide legal support through an IPO or other commercialization opportunities
  • Identify and resolve risk across the BERG organization
  • Keep abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas
  • Help direct the work of outside counsel, define project objectives and manage projects

Qualifications:

  • Requires a JD and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with prior experience with pharmaceutical or biotech companies
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Technical background should include expertise in small molecules and chemical subject matter
  • Must meet the professional licensing requirement of the state in which they practice
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
