Sr. Research Associate – Functional Proteomics

BERG is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our rapidly expanding “Omics” division, reporting to the Chief Precision Medicine Officer.  The successful candidate will join a team responsible for biomarker discovery/validation in multiple disease areas, including neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, obesity, and cancer, using state-of-the-art quantitative proteomics platforms.


  • Assist in high-throughput sample preparation of valuable clinical samples in a team-oriented environment
  • Follow standard operating procedures and perform duties in a highly detail-oriented and organized manner
  • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot chromatography and mass spectrometry equipment
  • Analyze and QC data to ensure optimal instrument performance and quality of sample preparation
  • Assist in method development of novel sample preparation techniques as well as optimization of existing sample preparation pipeline


  • Requires a BS in chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline with solid training in analytical methods plus 3-5 years of industry or independent research experience
  • Hands-on experience with operating and maintaining chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments is required; experience with HR/AM mass spectrometers such as Thermo Orbitrap and Q-Exactive series is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with mass spec data, quantitative and qualitative data analysis including spectral interpretation, and statistics-based data analysis is a plus
  • Familiarity with high-throughput quantitative methodologies such as iTRAQ®, TMT®, and Label-free approaches is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with superior and proven track record of technical and organizational skills. Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record keeping
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
